Neither Love in the Time of Cholera nor Into the Wild landed nominations for the 65th annual Golden Globe Awards when the nominees were announced today, but the music for each did.Shakira's "Despedida" (cowritten with Antonio Pinto), from Love in the Time of Cholera, was nominated for best original song. It will compete for the honor with Eddie Vedder's "Guaranteed," from Into the Wild.In addition, the Pearl Jam frontman was nominated along with Michael Brook and Kaki King for best original score for the Sean Penn-directed tale of Christopher McCandless' solo adventure and eventual death in the wilderness of Alaska.The other best original score nominees are Clint Eastwood for Grace Is Gone, Alberto Iglesias for The Kite Runner, Dario Marianelli for Atonement, and Howard Shore for Eastern Promises. Atonement was the leading Golden Globe nominee, with seven nods.Shakira and Vedder will battle for best original song with Eastwood and Carole Bayer Sager's title song from Grace Is Gone, Alan Menken's "That's How You Know" from Enchanted, and "Walk Hard" from Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, penned by Marshall Crenshaw, John C. Reilly, Judd Apatow, and Jake Kasdan.

Shoaib Malik is to retain the Pakistan captaincy until the end of next year despite the series defeat against India, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf said on Thursday."We will stick to our decision to name him as captain for the year (2008). We will give him our full backing and we feel he can mature into a good captain in time," Ashraf told reporters.The 25-year-old Malik's captaincy and own form have come under the microscope after Pakistan's one-day and test series defeats at home to South Africa and then the disappointing showing in India.Malik led Pakistan in the one-day series in India, which the hosts won 3-2, and the first test in New Delhi which India won by six wickets before going on to complete a 1-0 series triumph.Vice-captain Younis Khan was the captain for the last two tests as Malik was ruled out with an ankle injury.Ashraf said the board had made Malik the captain this year keeping in mind the future of Pakistan cricket."He is young and he will learn from his mistakes. Overall the team's performance in India lacked focus," he said.Ashraf said Pakistan's Australian coach, Geoff Lawson, had been asked to give a detailed report on Pakistan's first test series loss in India since the 1979-80 rubber."The team appeared to lack in mental toughness at times and professionalism. At least six weeks after the Cosco Busan oil spill struck San Francisco Bay, the popular beaches at Angel Island will reopen on Saturday.The reopening is with an asterisk. State officials are warning visitors there still may be tar balls of oil remaining on the island beaches. The same oil killed thousands of birds and marred miles of coastline.Angel Island is the largest island in San Francisco Bay. It's beaches were closed shortly after the November 7, 2007 oil spill. The spill was caused when a South Korea bound container ship, the Cosco Busan, struck the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge dumping 58,000 gallons of bunker oil.There are some bay area beaches that are still closed, including Rodeo Beach and Pirates Cove in Marin County. Point Isabel and Eastshore State Park are expected to open by the end of next week.Some other areas of the bay have been slow to be cleaned. In fact in the East Bay, many locals and bird watchers are still complaining of insufficient cleanup around the shoreline in Richmond
